Now that you are so excited as you have planned to hit the gym, you have some prep work to do beforehand. In other words, you cannot just go to the gym without any preparation. So, if you are a novice and planning to head to the gym any soon, here are some important tips to consider. If you follow this guideline, your first day at the gym won’t be a nightmare.
First of all, you must have a clear mindset about what you are about to do. It is for your own benefit and some sort of dedication is needed for your own betterment. After several months with proper training, you will have a different body which will be loved by many. So, have the big picture in mind but remember the fact that it requires a lot of patience. Also, don’t stress out yourself just because you are going to the gym. It is a fun place with a lot of other guys and girls just like you.
Start shopping around for your essentials at least a week before hitting the gym. You will need proper workout clothes, electronic accessories, meal prep devices, a gym bag, and some support accessories as well. You don’t want to buy all those at once. Instead, just go for a pair of shoes, at least a couple of workout clothing sets and a gym bag. Your instructor will consult you about the rest.
Before lifting the weights, you should warm up yourself. To get your body warmed up, you can simply walk for about 5 minutes and stretch for another 5 minutes. Make sure that you don’t overdo the cardio part before lifting weights. The other important thing is that you should finish your meals for about one hour before the gym. It is better to go with a small portion of carbs (perhaps a banana with some peanut butter or bread with peanut butter would be great). Such a diet will give you the energy to engage in the workout.
Don’t overdo the physical exercises during the first day no matter how excited you are. Just because you are curious, don’t try every machine available for you. If you do, you will feel so tired very soon and the following day will be a nightmare. In addition to that, you should go for plenty of water in order to keep yourself hydrated properly.
It is very important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of your workout schedule. You cannot achieve a totally different body within a month or so. Instead, you should expect your body to transform gradually (slowly but surely). You are required to have a substantial amount of patience and maintain consistency.
Have a post-workout meal right after the workout. In fact, that is the best time to fuel your body with some good food. When you work out, you actually break the muscles. Therefore, you should have plenty of protein, carbs and healthy sources of fat as your post-workout meal. Such a meal would help your muscles to rebuild after the workout.
Important: Don’t focus on the other individuals who might stare at you or try to show off in front of the novices like you. Instead, focus on your workout and think about the end result.
